Name the Beast
Social media posts and comments are often laced with obvious and subtle propaganda. This is especially true in the opposition to renewable energy and data/AI infrastructure projects but the use of propaganda is pervasive in our online discourse on nearly any topic.
The prevalence of vitriol and misinformation in social media debates makese those forums a scary place for the clear-eyed and well intentioned! You sense something is off in the dialogue but it’s hard to name, let alone respond to. That’s why we created First Responder. If you know why someone is making their argument in a certain way, it is easier to respond to. Trolls won’t engage on facts or leave their propaganda lane when challenged - the double down. Expose bad actors and wrest control of the narrative.

This chatbot is tuned to solar/agrivoltaics but will give a response to anything. It uses NREL, LBNL, and other well-vetted sources in addition to the Institute for Propaganda Analysis framework to analyse statements for propaganda and provide framing for a response. This is a work in progress and will continue to improve as we refine AI prompting and coding. For now, we encourage anyone that uses this to check/confirm the information before using it and to include your own trusted resources in the response. Providing accurate, well-vetted information while calling out a post is propaganda is a great way to subtly start educated folks about why what they are reading resonates (and how it is manipulative) while providing a factual counterpoint.
